Reflection

A year ago I discovered that there are many kinds of pollution of our oceans, which make up the largest part of the earth. I became interested in the problems caused by sewage, toxic chemicals from industries, fertilizers that run off from the land, and thoughtless littering. Ocean mining is one of the biggest and maybe least known problems. I wanted people to learn more about these issues and prevent them from becoming even more dangerous, but how would I get others interested? To catch their attention, I imagined pictures I could share in a visual poem, but I needed special techniques to create impact.

With the help of an expert video graphic artist, I found a way. I decided to use water as a medium, to work with the shape that living water takes as it spreads across paper. On my screen, viewers could follow the movement of the water and get excited about what happens to it. Maybe this could get them involved in what happens to our biggest water supply in the world. Sometimes people need words as well as images, so I decided to add some text as cues for people to explore the images and to think about them more deeply. When I look at my film, I am reminded of the infinite uses of water and how precious it is to us as a life force, and hopefully as viewers follow it in my film, they will look at our water differently.
