Darkened Reality

2015, Junior, Poetry & Spoken Word
Gazing into the pure wet blanket that moves ever so slowly,
As smooth as silk, flowing towards the shore.
The tranquil ocean life, ever so free,
From the intense sky, to the peaceful floor.
Then Reality crashes into me.
Darkness everywhere.
Darkness disrupting the joy that goes on underneath the fold.
What once was calm and fair,
Is taken over by Darkness, forcing to do what it is told.
Darkness, the one that others create, that others need for life.
Darkness, the one that others do not care for, that others see as trash.
Darkness, the one that is forced into the deep, that takes over, that causes strife.
Darkness, the one that splashes into the sea, causing animals and them to bash.
The life underneath is pure, full of innocent life,
The Darkness that enters their world disrupts its meaning, its purpose.
The Darkness slices through like a knife,
Making all life underneath feel like they deserved this, making them feel worthless.
Why do others make them feel this way?
What have they done to deserve this agony, this pain?
Why must they feel this Darkness, this dismay?
Why must they feel like the Darkness shall forever rein?
Above, there is no mercy.
Darkness still plunges down into the underneath.
Above, some care, but most show no sympathy.
Darkness still thrashes the underneath with their grievous teeth.
Therefore, the rest of us must take action,
Make up for the ones who throw Darkness around like toys.
The rest of us must keep fighting and not stop until we reach satisfaction.
We must stop Darkness from doing what it most enjoys.
Reflection
This poem was inspired by the world, basically, and the people in it. In the poem, “Darkness” refers to pollution and the current use of the words “ones,” “they,” “others,” and “them” are pronouns for either the people or the sea life. This poem pretty much talks about how Darkness (pollution) and how it damages the sea life. It talks about how the sea was once before, how it is now, and what should be happening.
This poem means a lot of things to me. This poem is about something that is pure and innocent being destroyed by Darkness, and how not very many people are doing anything about it. I find this a problem. The ones that are innocent have done nothing to receive such torture, so why do they get it? I find this puzzling. This is what the last stanza of this poem is about. It means that the rest of us that are just standing back and watching this happen must do something to end the pain that the sea life is going through.
I do not like things that do not deserve pain to get pain. Unless people are that cruel, I don’t think anyone does. However, there are people who simply do not care and throw something like trash into the ocean; into where living things thrive. This is a problem and it needs to stop as soon as it possibly can. This is what my poem’s purpose is for.
