Death of a Whale
Emilia Cormier
North Kingstown, RI
2019 Right Whales, Senior, Art (2014 – 2023)
Reflection

I created this painting because whales are such an important and beautiful species. Always living on the coast, I love the ocean and all life in it and think they need to be protected. I was inspired by all of the heartbreaking documentaries showing the turmoil of many aquatic animals. I wanted to try to make my own difference and show my support for these animals. Learning about the right whale specifically, I have found that it is one of the more endangered species of whale. I have also learned that one of the biggest dangers for them is oil spills. I hope that this art competition and learning about the whales will call attention to them for my family, and we can help by recycling more and being better to our environment.
