Reflection

My artwork represents the ocean in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask on while a shark doctor and fish nurse take care of it. What inspired my artwork is the deoxygenation of the ocean. What this term means is that the ocean, due to climate change, is heating up, and the warmer the waters are, the less oxygen it holds, which causes increased stratification. This will have a major impact on marine life with the loss of habitat, biodiversity, and biomass. While I was in the process of creating this piece, I honestly felt shame because this problem is mainly caused by humans with our constant dumping of sewage and burning of fossil fuels. The message I want to share about my piece is that I want more people to address this situation because it's affecting marine life and our Earth as a whole.
