My artwork portrays the depletion of ocean life which is caused by a huge problem in our oceans, dead zones. Dead zones are areas where oxygen concentrations are very low. In my piece, the drops of fish raining down represent the abundance of fish that are being killed by this ocean pollution every day. This pollution can be caused by excessive nutrient pollution in our oceans. This can stimulate an overgrowth of algae, having a serious effect on the fish and marine life. This type of pollution is not always thought about or noticed until it is too late. These problems can have a snowball effect, and soon enough fish are dropping left and right. I used my artwork to illustrate a literal depiction of how the lives of our ocean’s creatures fall into our own hands.
