Reflection
My artwork reflects my deep concerns about the world as climate changes continue to worsen. Although the scope of climate change is so big, I wanted to personalize it into a small-scale space. This approach was intentional to portray how a global crisis is apparent in our everyday lives and personal spaces. By placing myself in a miniature form amidst the broken bathroom tiles and objects, I aimed to make the impact of climate change relatable and immediate, demonstrating that this crisis also affects the intimate, fragile aspects in our lives. Holding a miniature version of myself in my hands symbolizes our fragile bond with the environment. The broken bathroom tiles, with its fallen pot, polar bear doll, and shattered fishbowl, represent that these little things can turn to destruction due to our actions as we neglect the environment. The shell bracelet that I wear in my work connects to my childhood when I spent time collecting shells at the beach. It’s a reminder of the beauty that I once took for granted and am now afraid of losing. Creating this piece has brought me feelings of vulnerability and urgency, reflecting my fear of losing the beauty of our Mother Nature. I hope that those who view my piece understand the critical need to protect the Earth. It’s a call to recognize how deeply climate change affects not just polar bears and fish, but all of us. My research on climate change revealed devastating impacts on our life such as acidification, temperatures, and pollution. These are just some of the immediate threats that are currently happening, destroying our life here on Earth. I aim to inspire shared responsibility and action, believing that our small efforts can lead to meaningful change.
