Reflection
Green the Gray originated from observing daily life in an urban environment. In the midst of concrete and steel, small fractures of nature, such as street trees, house plants, and patches of grass coexist throughout the city. This observation led me to consider how city dwellers might reconnect with nature. I chose to create an experiential diary, which allows for a multi-sensory approach, encouraging participants to record not only what they see, but also what they hear, touch, and smell in their surroundings. The chosen format makes the audience/authors notice and appreciate the natural elements around them, and to form deeper engagements. Our environment does not limit our bond with nature. Even in places that seem dominated by human construction, nature can be found if we look closely. This realization made me become more conscious and inspired me to conserve green spaces within my surroundings. By becoming more mindful of these moments, we can encourage sustainable changes in our communities. Creativity and observation, in this context, is a tool for awareness and positive change.
