Growing up in an age where climate change is one of society’s greatest threats, I constantly see news regarding the poor condition of our planet and what feels like impending doom. Regardless of all the warning signs, however, I became numb to earth screaming for help. When creating this video, I strived to create the connection between humanity and our planet that I struggled to grasp. Throughout brainstorming, researching, scriptwriting, and filming the video, an overarching theme reigned true to me: Every action that one takes to either help or harm Earth results in a reaction, whether it directly impacts our own lives or not. This lesson was the guiding principle for my creation. Throughout the film, I included multiple elements to demonstrate the mood and tone of different scenes. Firstly, I emphasized the difference in the human’s clean water, compared to the polluted water of the ocean people. While the human casually enjoyed his water and chips, he overlooked the reality for the ocean people. Additionally, I wanted to incorporate the contaminated water to shed light on those who lack clean drinking water. The outfits of the two ocean people while in the human’s house and the general lighting of the scene presented a darker and somber tone to symbolize the misery of the ocean people. The female ocean person wore a lock necklace around her neck to display the lack of control she has over her own future, as the humans are the ones that can choose to either pollute or save the Earth. Lastly, at the pond, the female ocean person and human’s outfits are altered to be brighter and more positive, accompanied by the gleaming pond and greenery, to close in on optimism and hope for change as the human and the ocean person “connect” by holding hands. Personally, this video has created a stepping stone for me to further advocate for the environment. Recently, I have joined the environmental club at my high school and reported to the committees in my school district that are responsible for creating a clean, safe, and healthy environment
