Climate Hero: David Attenborough, World Land Trust
Reflection

As I was researching ideas for my drawing, I came across the works of Sir David Attenborough, a climate activist working for over 15 years all over the world. He was my childhood role model as he fought for the environment and inspired me to care. I knew this was the perfect opportunity to incorporate some of his works into my art because he advocated for multiple species, some of which were mangroves. Mangroves have the ability to take in large amounts of carbon, but are critically endangered. I wanted to put parts of it into my artwork to emphasize the need to reduce the harm humans do on the environment. I had the theme of the mangroves and their abilities, but had no idea how to make my work more dynamic and entrancing. I soon realized that many of his works make use of the top-view angle, and I could incorporate this into my artwork and show my connection to his works. Throughout the drawing process, I learned about how mangroves and other trees protect the world from asphyxiation, and how people already fight for the environment. However, the fight against climate change is still an ongoing battle. "We can change things," like Sir David Attenborough once said. Communities are able to change their surrounding environments and ecosystems. After hearing this quote, I feel hopeful that we still can become stable once more. We can change to live harmoniously with our world. To everyone who views my artwork, I want to tell them to never lose hope, and that what they do matters.
