Reflection
Land-ful-filling Prophecy, is a deeply personal reflection on the intersection of climate change and fishing pollution, especially as it affects South Korea, my home country. This piece depicts a dystopian seascape filled with debris and mechanical parts, centering around a fish composed of discarded objects. This visual narrative resonates with my own experiences and concerns about the impact of pollution on Korea’s coastal communities. Because I often visited the coast, I have always felt a deep connection to the ocean. I remember the days when the beaches were clean and the waters were clear, teeming with vibrant marine life. Over the years, however, I have witnessed the rapid decline of these once pristine environments. The sight of plastic waste and abandoned fishing gear littering the shores has become all too common, and a once beautiful community space has become an abandoned, bleak zone. I hope that my artwork serves as a reminder of how our actions have far-reaching impacts on the environment. I have seen firsthand how pollution affects the livelihoods of local fishing communities, threatening their economic stability and cultural heritage. This connection to the issue drives my passion for raising awareness and promoting change. "Land-ful-filling Prophecy" should challenge viewers to recognize the urgency of addressing fishing pollution and its broader implications for climate change. This piece is my way of sharing a story that is both deeply personal and universally relevant, urging us all to protect our precious marine ecosystems and strive for a sustainable future.
