Lifeguard
Island Garden, Philippines
2021, Senior, Performing Arts
The ice is melting
And the sea levels are rising
Do you’ll even know watcha doin’
Toxic gases are floating through the air
It’s time to open your eyes and start to care
‘Cuz the earth is dying and it needs some help from you
Now I’m asking you, watcha gonna do?
Chorus:
The Earth is sinking, drowning, no it’s dying
She saying save me, save me, I am dying
We should wear our life vest, perform our best
To save our mother earth
Refrain:
Burning, smoking, emitting gases through the air
What’s wrong people, you don’t even seem to care… That
Rap:
(Tagalog)
Lumalalim na ang dagat
Kailan tayo mamumulat
Tayo’y kinakain na nang dagat
Sana tayoý magbago
Wag nang matigas ang ulo
Gumawa ng kabutihan para sa buong mundo
(Waray)
Halarum na an dagat
San – o kita magmamata
Ginkakaon na kita san dagat
Mag bag – o na hunt akita
An ulo ayaw pagkatig – a
Maghimo san kaupayan para sa kalibutan
(Bisaya)
Nilalom na ang dagat
Kanus – a ta magmata
Kitaý ginakaon na sa dagat
Unta kitaý magbag – o
Di na mag ginahig ulo
Magbuhat ug kamaayo sa atong kalibutan
Reflection
Climate change has a significant impact on sea level rise. It has sparked international interest since rising sea levels will have major consequences for many places on the planet in the future. The song we composed speaks about how people should be the lifeguards of our mother's world, since our mother's world needs our support to rescue herself. When we wrote this song, we considered the possibilities and the reasons why the planet needed to be saved. We are regretful and saddened by all that people have done to ruin our earth. I realized that we, as global citizens, must join in and take action to conserve our planet since it is our home and we must care for it not just for ourselves, but also for future generations.
