Reflection

From lower school, I have been taught that climate change is an often overlooked but crucial issue that severely impacts our world today. Throughout my 14 years of life, I have tried to overcome, or at least alleviate, the consequences of climate change. I have become involved in my school's green team, attended Silicon Valley climate youth programs and conferences, and educated my peers and classmates about climate change and what can be done about food and water waste and pollution in the environment. I have also loved writing ever since I was a fifth grader and have participated in multiple competitions as well as brainstormed over 40 works for fun. I hope to share both my love for writing and my feelings about climate change in my work. For my Climate Hero, I chose Amy Keller because I found it fascinating that as the heiress of a company who makes Dum Dums, one of the most popular lollipops in the world, she chose to instead repurpose unappealing-looking fruit into candy. Like me, she joined a life of candy with the passion for saving the environment.
