Reflection
I created an original composition where I was most interested in creating an atmosphere. I wanted the listener to feel overwhelmed and inspired by the plethora of sound. The composition is split into three sections. These three sections are meant to show the impacts we’ve made as humans on Earth. The first section is set during the time before humans when the system was in perfect balance. I used marine animal sounds along with smooth synths and pianos to create a very calming, underwater atmosphere. The second section is meant to symbolize the introduction of humans and the environmental conflicts instigated on marine life. I purposefully used odd and abrasive sound textures with sounds of industrialization and city life. The final section is meant to send a message of hope. I took inspiration from elements of space funk to create a futuristic sound. The final outro serves as a question to the listener: “What will you do?”. Climate change is real, and although many of us may not witness it on a daily basis, there is startling evidence of our impact on marine life. What gives me hope about the future of our planet is that people are working to inform themselves. I’ve been a musician my entire life, and I believe this is my best way to inform others on climate change’s impact on our oceans.
