Project Description: Peaceful Pacific is a self-care app designed for a younger audience (ages 7-20) as an introduction to self-care, as well as spreading awareness about endangered species native to pacific islands. Users can click through informational pages, get advice from playful animals, and even leave “messages” that serve as outlets for the users to type anything they would like as a method of expressing themselves and releasing any emotional tension or stress.

Reflection
I came up with the idea for my piece by connecting two concepts I am passionate about. Being Pacific Islander and a conservationist, I strongly care about the state of my native lands. I had recently watched a documentary mentioning how the New Zealand kiwi bird had been classified into the endangered species list. I did some further research and found out just how many Pacific Island species have been placed onto the endangered list. I wanted a way to introduce this crisis to a younger generation, while also creating something that would help users themselves. I know that recent generations have struggled with mental health, and I have seen that firsthand, in my friends, family, and even myself. After researching and brainstorming about the contest theme, I reflected about how closely connected we are to nature. Even though we may live indoors, we cannot escape nature. I think that’s a beautiful thing, and it really inspired me. I want the viewers of my piece to know that no matter how you feel, taking care of yourself is always a worthwhile choice. Loving yourself is important, and it makes all the difference!
