Poseidon’s Tainted Ocean
Eliezer Garcia
Grand Prairie, TX
2015, Senior, Art (2014 – 2023)
Reflection

The title of the art work is Poseidon’s tainted ocean, Poseidon, ruler of the ocean but in my modern interpretation of him and the ocean involving modern time oil pollution. The torso itself represents the body of ocean, that surrounds our planet, and the coral on the bottom signifies life beneath the ocean. Poseidon is known for ruling the oceans and all of its life, so as the artist I tried to incorporate him and the broken shell pieces as part of our oceans. There are four broken parts to the shell signifying four oceans and the fifth being Poseidon (Pacific, Atlantic, Artic, Antarctic, Indian ocean ) separated by the oil coated wire signifying the want for oil in our oceans and the pollution that comes with as a result. As a little kid I was always told that you can hear the ocean by putting your ear on a sea shell, and it was one of my favorite things to do when going to the beach. So as the artist I made a shell like ocean surrounding the back of Poseidon but I made the shell broken to signifying that with the ocean being destroyed life in the ocean will be no more. I was influenced on making this in hope that people change their minds and help save the ocean. The pieces itself shows beauty but also shows the destruction of beauty, something that people should look and think about our oceans and what will happen to the beauty that is found below depths
