I chose Licypriya Kangujam because I could relate to her. We are both kids from Asia who think a clean Earth is important. I found an image of her wearing a sukifu, which is a survival kit for the future. This device is made from trash and can provide clean air for our bodies (especially when there's polluted air). She did this to protest against the bad air quality in India. When I saw this, I knew I had to put it on my painting. To showcase how bad the air quality is, I added some fossil fuels burning in the background of my piece. But that wasn't enough. As I looked at pictures of Licypriya, I noticed she has done many protests. I wanted to incorporate some of her messages into my art. I also wanted to include many problems of our climate not just one, such as littering, drought, and how bad fossil fuels are for the planet. You can see those problems in my painting. The reason that I added plastic trash is because since I had a lot of snack packages in my house, I thought a good way of reusing them is by putting them on the canvas. It's also cool to have a textured painting, and I think the trash gives my work more of a visual appeal. That's why I added clay too. This project has really helped me learn about the problems of climate change in India (and the Earth). Like how bad the air quality is, and how you can make little devices to help combat the effects of climate change. Licypriya has inspired me to be part of the solution, and I hope my art does the same for you.
