Growing up in Southern California, I have always felt passionate about keeping our oceans clean and safe for marine life. As I grew older, and began to comprehend the problems our society faces, I was confronted with the severity of our environmental issues. Hearing about all the unimaginable, terrifying consequences climate change will have on our planet, I kept wondering why we weren’t working together as the human race to protect all life on Earth. I quickly realized that the limiting factors are ingrained in the way our society functions. The average person feels so distanced from the bigger picture that they believe their actions are insignificant. I am lucky enough to have studio equipment at home, and for much of my life, songwriting has been a way for me to get educational messages across. What I hope is received from my song, is that every choice we make, every drive to school, every item purchased, is bringing more greenhouse gas into our atmosphere. That carbon is being absorbed by the ocean and altering it in countless ways. What we all must understand is that climate change will affect everyone, no matter where or who they are. Because of this, preventing disastrous global warming should be on everybody’s mind. I wanted my song to have a hopeful tone, because it’s not too late to turn things around. If people around the globe made an effort to reduce emissions and waste, we could save the world.
