This was my first time exploring the art of experimental filmmaking, and what better way to do so while learning about global warming! I found that, using the experimental art form, I was able to hone the emotions behind the effects of global warming rather than focusing on lines and scripts. I knew that I wanted to personify water and global warming, so I had two friends play those roles. Water, the first character, is a luxury that many people take for granted: she is pure, elegant, and desirable. The other character, Global Warming, is intrusive, suffocating, and malignant. This short film is organized in a manor that allows the audience to appreciate and admire she who is Water, and the benefits she provides, right before Global Warming overwhelms her reign. While filming the water portions, I gained the understanding of how important water is in my life; we use it to cook, to clean, to wash, to drink, to survive. I also recognized my privilege of access to clean water. After researching how prevalent the causes of global warming are in my life, creating this short experimental film became all the more important. Litter, deforestation, oil pumping—all causes of global warming—have been made to feel normal in my community. While stopping green house gasses and large oil companies is likely out of my reach, I hope that the awareness I spread with this film can contribute to preventing the smaller scale causes of global warming in my community. After completing this project, I will actively participate in the fight to save the oceans and environment by walking or riding my bike instead of driving, recycle more, buy from package efficient companies, and educate my friends and family on ways they can reduce global warming!
