Climate Hero: Helena and Nina Gualinga
Reflection
I was inspired by these two women who not only are sisters to each other but to all the women they care for. Mother nature is the one that gives, but sister nature is the sibling that fights for us. I chose them because they are Latinas, and Kichwa, a community in Sarayaku, Ecuador, in South America, where I live. he painting shows the harmony between Indigenous cultures and the environment. After looking up Helena and Nina's stories I found out the actual damage petroleum does to the Amazon and the environment. Many talk about deforestation, but not enough about the damage these chemicals do to water and the living creatures in the forest. I am inspired by these Climate heroes who chose to speak up and find solutions to any issues. I envy their courage in the ongoing struggle to protect indigenous rights and preserve our natural world. When women stand up to show what they care for, whether it be family, their country, or their land, it serves as a reminder of the importance of listening to indigenous voices and taking action to safeguard our planet for future generations. I hope many people learn about them so we can all learn and be fair and protect nature now and tomorrow.
