Reflection
December of 2023, my family and I were back in Japan for our yearly snow sporting trip. However, after questioning my mom about the events that are going to take place during that trip, my brother and I quickly figured out a missing piece, the part where we get to snowboard. Which is when our parents told us that it strangely hasn’t started snowing in Japan yet due to the effects of climate change and if we were to ski we would be grass sledding instead. Disappointed, the family went to Japan and lived at the ski resort we were meant to be skiing at, as expected the snow we saw only covered a thin and slender layer of the mountain. Therefore, I created this piece as a dramatized representation of the ruin of our ski trip that winter. I decided to create this piece by carving firstly because I believe it would give a simplistic yet cohesive feel onto the piece but also because I wanted to try a new technique out. What I learned from researching about this topic is how every carbon footprint counts, and collectively, it can increase in global warming which will eventually change every part of our everyday life.
