The Possessions of Water

The flow carries the baggage on its way
Holding the moments kept hidden, sacred
Often contains the emotions of the ones above,
expressed so vividly
The liquid grips onto each interaction,
each moment, each connection
It remembers all, knows all
Never does the water forget its relations
When recalling my best dance with water,
the beach is brought to mind
Its waves make contact with the shore,
so furiously each time
Until the calm arises
Its interactions with the sand become smooth,
subtle, caring
When pulled back by the current it takes each second with it
It holds all that it felt, that it saw on the shore
All that was expressed, now frozen in time
As the flow continues on its way,
its luggage bursting with all kept hidden inside,
It makes its way to collect another unforgettable moment
Reflection
My work was inspired by the idea that water remembers everything. It holds each of its interactions within as it continues to collect more along its journey. While writing my poem, I felt a connection to the ocean and all forms of water. I personified water and gave it feelings. This in turn made me feel empathetic towards water; it goes through so much on its repeated cycle and has the responsibility of holding all that it meets within. My message to readers is to think about how many times you come into contact with water each day. Every drop you see has been everywhere. It was once a part of the never-ending ocean, a part of secrets and things not yet known to humankind. It was then lifted up as a vapour, into the clouds, and back onto the surface of the Earth. Somehow, it made its way to you. All in all, my message is to feel grateful for the water that found you. After doing research, I learned about water's impact on the world. It is responsible for so much; keeping plants and organisms on this planet alive. After learning about this vital resource, I will do my best to spread awareness about its importance and impact. I'll help make sure water finds those who are less fortunate.
