The unfairness in access to clean and safe water can be seen from the smallest things. Recently, as I was scrolling through my social media feed, I saw that posts from swimming pools were slowly starting to appear with summer around the corner. It was notable to me how people use and treat water differs depending on the degree to which environmental threats impact them. Considering water as a mirror of our society, I would see people taking easy access to water for granted on one side and people suffering to gain access to essential drinking water on the other reflected side. The difference in levels and colors each represents the socioeconomic status of the people and their degree of access to water, respectively. While drawing this piece, I learned that the main cause of sea level rise, which is climate change, causes more severe droughts and floods, decreasing access to water that is safe and clean to drink. I believe that only by understanding how these threats are impacting others in the global community, we are taking a step towards environmental justice. As a youth advocate fighting against the global water crisis, I will continue to make my efforts in raising awareness of the problem and making a global community in which people have fair access to clean and safe water.
