We’re Family, Right?

Reflection
Fighting against environmental challenges starts with fighting against old habits set in stone. Our planet’s most pressing issues—climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss—grow increasingly formidable because we treat nature like a stranger. We have been guilty of this too, which became the seed for our film’s story. If it meant that our careless ways harm the health of our family, we would shudder at how much we contribute to pollution by choosing disposable plastics or discarding trash wherever we please. But because we maintain that nature is a dim and distant stranger we can simply turn our backs on, we continue to be complicit in our planet’s slow and painful destruction. Using magical realism and humor, we tried to transform the abstract into reality: nature isn’t a stranger—it’s family. And family deserves better.
