For the Healthy Whales, Healthy Ocean Challenge, I created a digital art piece. The art piece is a golden whale blowing water as an invisible young mermaid on its back watches. The mermaid is a metaphor for nature seeing the art and beauty in everything. And the golden whale is a metaphor for how some see beauty, and some see money and treasure, and some see rareness. To make this art, I used the phone app Pocket by Procreate. My piece was created with digital watercolor, marker and pen. What inspired me to make this piece was water. Water has many meanings in different forms. So I decided that to create an art piece similar to that, where people with different views can look at the art with multiple ideas yet can all see the message; whales are beautiful and are a part of nature, therefore they should be protected. One thing I learned about Right Whales is that there are less than 450 right whales left with the number becoming lower and lower due to manmade problems such as entanglements in fishing gear, being killed by ships, and pollution. But one action that I will personally take is posting/ spreading awareness on social media, recycling and educating myself/ researching more on the issue.
