Bow Seat Protest-Themed Artwork at the American Repertory Theater
December 5-16
Cambridge, MA

In partnership with the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), Bow Seat is thrilled to feature award-winning artwork from our annual Ocean Awareness Contest. Displayed along the windows at the entrance of the theater, our selection of student pieces capture the spirit of protest to protect our blue planet, working in synergy with the A.R.T.’s performances of WILD: A Musical Becoming (December 5, 2021-January 2, 2022) about a mother confronting what it means for her family and community to survive in a world facing mass extinction.

More About Bow Seat’s Ocean Awareness Contest:

Now in its 11th year, the annual Ocean Awareness Contest has engaged more than 24,000 middle and high schoolers from all 50 U.S. states and 133 countries in creative communication for our ocean. Students are invited to submit visual art, writing, poetry, spoken word, film, music, dance, and multimedia exploring critical conservation issues such as plastic pollution, fossil fuel extraction, biodiversity loss, and climate change, with a focus on humans’ roles as both problem-makers and solvers.

More About the Show:

WILD: A Musical Becoming is a new musical fable about a single mother struggling to hold on to her family farm and connect with her teenage daughter, whose determination to save the planet endows her and her friends with powers they never knew they had. Created by Tony and Obie Award-winning playwright V (formerly Eve Ensler; In the Body of the World, The Vagina Monologues), Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated songwriter Justin Tranter (Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons), and songwriter Caroline Pennell (Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez) and directed by Diane Paulus, WILD features Tony Award-winning performer and songwriter Idina Menzel (Rent, Wicked, Frozen). Inspired by the show’s theme of caring for the planet, this concert production embraces regenerative practice and invites you to use your imagination to set the scene.
