Mazingira School Drive
In the first quarter of the Fellowship program, Mazingira School Drive has achieved significant milestones in raising awareness about the environmental challenges caused by historical gold-mining activities in Ikolomani, Kakamega County, Kenya.
2024 Fellow Purity and her team have reached over 1500 people through a series of engaging performances and educational workshops for youth, teachers, community members, and local leadership. They have received overwhelming support with many community members expressing enthusiasm to participate in restoration projects.
“One particular moment that stood out to us during the first quarter of the Fellowship program was the realization of the impact our project had on the community during our performances and educational workshops(especially in Ikolomani Community Hall). Seeing the engagement and enthusiasm of the audience, especially the students and youth, was truly inspiring.Witnessing individuals actively participate in discussions, ask questions, and express their commitment to environmental conservation highlighted the significance of our efforts and reaffirmed our belief in the power of grassroots initiatives to drive positive change. This moment underscored the importance of our work and motivated us to redouble our efforts in the upcoming quarters of the program.”
