Boston Youth Poet Laureate Alondra Bobadilla Joins Bow Seat’s 2020 Ocean Awareness Contest Judging Team
May 26, 2020

We are thrilled to welcome Alondra Bobadilla, Boston’s inaugural Youth Poet Laureate, as a judge for our 2020 Ocean Awareness Contest! Alondra, a 17-year-old student at Fenway High School, brings a passion for words and a young and diverse perspective to Bow Seat’s talented judging crew of artists, writers, filmmakers, musicians, teachers, and scientists.

Since 2012, Bow Seat’s Ocean Awareness Contest has engaged teens worldwide in creatively exploring the connections between human activities and the health of our ocean. The 2020 Contest, Climate Hope: Transforming Crisis, invites middle and high school students worldwide to learn about the climate crisis and its impact on our ocean and to create visual art, writing, films, music, and interactive media that brings to life hope for the future.

As a Poetry judge for the 2020 Contest, Alondra will contribute her experience using writing to highlight social issues that impact her and her community. Through her own work, Alondra demonstrates how creative expression can be a powerful tool for youth to examine feelings around issues, find their voice, and speak up about the changes they want to see for their future. We are honored to have Alondra serve as a role model for our student participants.

There’s still time to participate in the 2020 Ocean Awareness Contest—the deadline to submit is June 15th. In addition to the general Contest prizes, we have special Hometown Awards for Boston students and Bay State Awards for Massachusetts participants. Judging is scheduled to take place this summer, and winners will be announced in the fall.
