Bow Seat Visits “Sea the Change” Classrooms
May 30, 2018We at Bow Seat are thrilled to have connected with Emma Pearson, a high school student and the Executive Director of Sea the Change, an organization dedicated to ocean conservation through classroom education and inspiration. Emma visits local elementary schools to share her passion for the ocean and inspire young ocean conservationists to create change, one wave at a time.
And get this: Emma hails from Longmont, Colorado—more than 1,000 miles from the ocean. Emma is spreading ocean awareness and helping young students realize that you can be an ocean caretaker no matter where you live.
Bow Seat’s Program Director Alyssa and Project Coordinator Ren visited with Emma in two of her elementary school classrooms through Skype. The students asked insightful questions that showed how much they know and care about the ocean. They were also interested in learning about us as ocean conservationists—what inspires us, what challenges we face—and how we use art to educate, inspire, and activate others.
Seeing such engaged and caring students filled our hearts with joy!
Emma is spreading her passion and knowledge about protecting the ocean to Longmont’s next generation. We hope that some of those elementary students will go home and share what they’ve learned with their parents, grandparents, and other family members. As we all know, adults have a lot to learn from kids, too!
At Bow Seat, we support young leaders who are creating positive change for our blue planet. Meet some of our young wavemakers who are fighting plastic pollution in their communities and inspiring others to join them.
