World Oceans Day: Where in the World Art We?
May 27, 2015World Oceans Day is coming up on June 8th!
The concept for a “World Ocean Day” was first proposed in 1992 by the Government of Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. As a result of a United Nations General Assembly resolution passed in December 2008, World Oceans Day is now officially recognized by the UN as June 8th each year. There’s now a fancy website where you can register your event, or find an event near you! Go to www.worldoceansday.org to check it out.
Since we at the Bow Seat are all about empowering young artists, writers, poets, filmmakers, and conservationists to use their creativity for the ocean, OF COURSE we are going to be at World Oceans Day.
In fact, we’re going to be at THREE World Oceans festivals. Yep, THREE. Are you nearby? Come find us!
Boston, MA – World Oceans Day, New England Aquarium, June 7th
Honolulu, Hawai’i – World Oceans Day Hawaii, Honolulu Museum of Art, June 6 – 12
Eluthera, Bahamas – World Oceans Day, The Island School, June 6 – 12
We’ll have an exhibit featuring some student works submitted to our Ocean Awareness Student Contest, as well as a sandsifting station and an art station where everyone will contribute to a marine debris mosaic.
Come find us, you’ll see our bright blue plastic-free banner!
