As human populations grow, more land is developed for cities and homes, reducing available farmland. This makes it harder for farmers to feed themselves and the rest of us, which increases food prices and causes hardship for the poor. In my artwork I am seen taking a bite out of the earth and that is an effort in me trying to sustain myself because of many climate problems which are happening around me and as the fire in my hair approaches closer to fully cover me. Personally as seen in California we have received unusual amounts of rain recently which have caused flash flooding in some areas and large amounts of water which have no where to go since the state was not built for this type of weather which have taken away from many people and children as schools and playgrounds have been damaged by these floods. Another example is the melting of icebergs which have caused many problems for the animals who live there and have contributed to an increase in sea levels which will soon sink some of the homes of people all over the world. I hope that this artwork not only brings awareness to those who can be reached by it, but also are influenced to do something about the climate crises to help prevent worse problems in the near or far future. I believe that to combat this climate change it is not only the everyday person at fault, but also corporations who damage the climate and Earth greatly without many restrictions which should be put in place to tackle climate change. Through creating this artwork and learning of this contest theme I have learned of not just different ways of reducing emissions and waster, but also of different ways of informing others about these problems, one being through art.
