Reflection
After reading the prompt and doing research, I was propelled to create art about the people without access to clean water. In the piece, I show a worker either catching or releasing water drops. I used emergency blanket to consider the role that natural disasters play restricted water access for 1 billion people, since emergency blankets are often given by relief responders to those affected by natural disasters. Natural disasters often destroy the infrastructure that delivers clean water, like with Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, causing more people not to have clean water. Clean water is often diverted or prioritized towards affluent neighborhoods. Flint, Michigan did not have clean water for about four years, partly due to the majority of the town being lower income and primarily African American. This is why I left it to interpretation with my title as to whether the person is catching or releasing the water. It is a human necessity to have human water, to catch it, yet people are still being forced to release their right to clean water.
