Depicted in the center of the illustration is a large bubble that encapsulates an array of exuberant sea life, from various coral reefs to a blue whale. At the foundation is a person holding all this up. Bubbles are extremely delicate. It is our responsibility to care for and take measures to preserve the environment. If we don’t, that bubble may burst. Towards the top half of the illustration are shown potential causes of climate change, from deforestation, toxic chemical waste, oil rigging, and overall irresponsible actions that harm the environment. All these things are weighing down on the bubble. How much more can it take? What happens when it no longer can? The person holding everything up will get tumbled down by everything illustrated above him. That person is every single one of us. Detrimental effects to the environment will trickle down directly to us with an even more forceful impact. Surrounding the person at the bottom is a black void littered with dead corpses of various sea life along with whatever memorabilia humans have contributed. The piece is meant to showcase the interconnectedness of all aspects of life. This is not simply a call for awareness about climate change. It is making the viewer choose whether or not they’re part of the problem. Are you the person weighing everything down or holding it all up?
