Dying Roots

Reflection
Reflection

As I started my piece, I wanted to focus on showing how quickly our planet is changing. The message of my piece lies in both the foreground and background. In the foreground, the girl with the monkey has a pleading expression. Her connection to the mangrove roots shows her reliance on the ocean, just like how the mangrove trees thrive in saltwater habitats. But as sea levels rise, the girl and her pet will be submerged in the ocean water. For the background, I took a more unconventional approach to communicate about climate change by utilizing graphs into my art. The top most graph is carbon emissions, the second is global temperature, the third is renewable energy consumption, the fourth is the drop in glaciers, and the final one is the rise in sea levels. All these graphs measure global climate change from the past 200 years.
