I was inspired to create the piece "Going Under" after learning about the effects of climate change on poor and POC communities. When we learn about climate change, we usually hear about the effect it has on animals and their habitats, not the marginalized people in our society. I have heard the word climate justice being thrown around once or twice, but I never once sat down to think about how that applied to the world around me. I created this piece as a representation of the information I learned, as well as a response to my own lack of knowledge. After learning about this issue I want to use my art and voice to raise awareness about this inequity. People cannot care about what they don’t understand and I believe through education and awareness we will be able to at least equip these communities with the tools they need to make informed decisions and continue our fight for resources and support with housing.
