Reflection
A particular teacher with a commitment to shaping the perspective of her own students inspired this song. A teacher who taught us to question everything and remember that every action has a consequence; and when it comes to the environment, we are all equally responsible for considering those consequences and making changes to our own lives to build a more sustainable future. The arts and especially music have long been a part of my life and a tool I've used to express my own creativity. It is what I use to understand experiences and move on from relationships, as well as build worlds of fantasy that have their basis in true events. Art raises my focus and my drive to continue creating. It's never a sense of calm I get when I create, it's a sense of excitement fueled by an insatiable hunger for finding something I know will resonate with someone. The parents who brought us into this world told us that we are irresponsible and unorganized yet they left us the with the responsibility to clean up the earth that they left unkept. That's a far cry from our teenage bedrooms. As some old Greek proverb goes: Blessed are old people who plant trees knowing that they will never sit in the shade of their foliage. It may not even happen in our lifetime when we see the reversal of anthropogenic climate change, but as long as we lay the foundation and pass the torch on to the next generation, we will ensure that there is a framework to guide our future toward a more sustainable path.
