I brainstormed many ideas to come up with an art piece that would effectively communicate the importance of the ocean. After researching possible ideas, I settled on trying to represent pollution and how detrimental it is for the creatures living in the ocean. As humans, we dump over 17.6 billion pounds of plastic into the oceans annually, and we need to do a better job at preventing this. After learning about this topic, I strive to be more conscious and aware of my trash output, and I would like to cut down on unnecessary items such as plastic water bottles and straws. Knowing the damage that they cause the ocean is enough to make me want to change significantly. I hope as people view my piece, they also feel the same way and are inspired to take similar actions to me in order to save the ocean.
