Project Description: Sinking is a website designed to educate the public about sea level rise around the world, both short and long-term implications as well as possible solutions. I wanted to prove that sea level rise is a problem to be worried about and taken seriously.

Reflection
“Sinking” is inspired by the relentless and accelerated rise of sea levels and its feared long-term implications. Through the preparation of this website, I have learned how much world coastlines, in particular some low-lying countries, are in danger. Even a small increase in sea level rise can have devastating effects on coastal habitats farther inland. It can cause destructive erosion, wetland flooding, aquifer and agricultural soil contamination with salt, and lost habitats for fish, birds, and plants. I believe that the public is still lacking adequate awareness about the sea level rise. Despite all of the ongoing efforts, the carbon emissions did not drop significantly even during the Covid-19 crisis which reduced traveling significantly worldwide. I wanted to showcase that public education is the first step for slowing down the sea level rise. At the end of the day, hope can soar only with science and public awareness.
