My artwork is inspired by the story of "The Emperor's New Clothes” but this time, the clothes are not imagined. Today, many people don't admit that climate change is happening; just like in my drawing, they are lying to themselves when they look into the mirror. It is time for people to face the fact that we are the culprit. Imagine a world where the entire sea is severely polluted, and birds were always covered with black oil. The most surprising news I learned was the tragedy that oil spills can affect marine life and coastal communities even decades after its initial leak. I decided to represent coastal animals with the Great Crested Grebe because I found pictures of this bird covered in oil. When I saw how the bird usually looks, its magnificent crest reminded me of an emperor's crown. The expression “the Emperor has no clothes” is often used to express when many people believe something is untrue. I want to announce that “the Emperor HAS clothes” and the truth is right in front of our eyes. It is time to act and to choose a future for our planet.
