Climate Hero: Autumn Peltier, Anishinabek Nation
Reflection
Reflection

Autumn Peltier is an Anishinaabe Indigenous activist and water warrior. From a very young age, Autumn has been fighting for the right to clean and safe drinking water, specifically on Canadian reserves. At age 12, she confronted Justin Trudeau about the inadequate access to clean water; he then pledged, "I will protect the water." Since then, Autumn has continued to advocate for water crises faced in communities nationwide. She has called for stronger policies, legislation, and actions to those in power, urging sustainable practices to resolve issues regarding water contamination, pollution, and climate change. Her emphasis and determination to protect our most valuable resource has inspired young activists worldwide to protest alongside her for some much needed change. With my piece, I wanted to show both the simplicity and complexity of water and how it has the power to influence our lives for the worse or for the better depending on how we choose to treat and protect it.
