Bow Seat Announces 2020 Educator Innovation Award Winners
October 20, 2020

During a school year that faced extraordinary disruptions and challenges, we witnessed with admiration and solidarity how teachers doubled down their commitment to their students and continued to educate them in creative ways. That’s why we are especially thrilled to recognize our 2020 class of Educator Innovation Award winners—teachers who took advantage of the Ocean Awareness Contest’s compatibility with remote learning to engage their students in environmental education and advocacy, and to empower them to use their creativity and imagination to speak out for our blue planet.

Our 2020 Educator Innovation Award winners represent Bow Seat’s international community—they hail from one of the largest archipelagos in the world in the Pacific and Indian Oceans to an inland European country, from the tip of the African continent to landlocked and coastal American states. More than anything, this group of teachers demonstrates that we all share the same blue home and face similar global challenges, whether it’s a public health pandemic or the enduring climate crisis. They also show that activating a generation of informed and engaged citizens is critical to changing the trajectory of our future… and that instilling them with hope is both essential and empowering.

Congratulations to our 2020 Educator Innovation Award winners! Read more about why they brought the Ocean Awareness Contest into their classrooms, and how they used it to teach students about climate change and to engage them in creative action.
