November 16, 2017

At the Ninth Annual Go Blue Awards Luncheon held on October 27th at the PGA National Resort & Spa in West Palm Beach, Florida, Bow Seat’s Founder Linda Cabot was presented with the Blue Ambassador of the Year Award to recognize her significant contributions in ocean conservation through volunteer-related activities.

Hosted by Loggerhead Marinelife Center, the Go Blue Awards Luncheon honors four individuals and one organization that have promoted a “blue” lifestyle of marine conservation and have made significant contributions to improve and protect our oceans, beaches, and wildlife.

Harnessing the power of creative media to educate and inspire youth, Linda founded Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs to activate the next generation of ocean caretakers through education and engagement with the arts, science and advocacy. Bow Seat’s signature initiative – the annual Ocean Awareness Student Contest – has engaged nearly 7,000 teenagers worldwide and awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships. Bow Seat also promotes ocean conservation by sponsoring and participating in global and national initiatives, providing classroom resources, and forming purposeful partnerships to maximize efforts to protect the ocean. Linda is a board member of Women Working for Oceans and a trustee of the New England Aquarium.

The 2017 Go Blue Awards Luncheon featured award-winning National Geographic photographer Brian Skerry as keynote speaker. The panel of judges included: Gary Adkison, U.S. Shark Foundation director; Fabien Cousteau, aquanaut, oceanographic explorer, conservationist, and documentary filmmaker; Greg Marshall, inventor and scientist, National Geographic Society; Sally Murray, daughter of LMC Founder Eleanor Fletcher; Susan Murray, Oceana U.S. Pacific deputy vice president, granddaughter of LMC Founder Eleanor Fletcher; Paul Nicklen; photographer and marine biologist, National Geographic; Joel Sartore, photographer, speaker, author, teacher and 20-year National Geographic Magazine contributor; and Jim Toomey, Mission Blue executive director, Sherman’s Lagoon Comic Strip creator.
