World Oceans Day 2016
June 10, 2016

On June 5th, the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs team attended the New England Aquarium’s annual World Oceans Day celebration, a free family-friendly event right on Boston Harbor. Despite a cool and rainy day in Massachusetts, the event was a huge success and saw about 3,000 visitors pass through. We met ocean caretakers of all ages and from all over the world… and we had a ton of fun!

The event was a great way for us to show off our student artists, promote the Ocean Awareness Student Contest, and engage with visitors about ocean pollution. We had a display of awesome Bow Seat merchandise, hands-on ocean pollution activities (such as: disentangle toy marine creatures from nets and plastic six-pack rings), and an ocean photo booth (see highlights below). We also asked visitors: How are YOU an ocean caretaker? We loved hearing the many different ways that people are protecting our oceans on a daily basis.

Thank you to all of the visitors who stopped by, the many great organizations that shared their important ocean conservation work with the public, and of course to the New England Aquarium for hosting such an enjoyable — and important — event!

Even though World Oceans Day was officially acknowledged around the world on June 8th, we hope you find a moment each day to celebrate our blue planet and take action for our oceans!
