Shenzhen, China
2023, Senior, Interactive & Multimedia
Climate Hero: Alexander McQueen
Project Description: These are two AR Masks inspired by “The Plato’s Atlantis Show” by Alexander McQueen in 2010. The masks can trace people’s face when they move in front of the camera. They are published on social media, so that people can use it online and share to their friends as well. The masks use color inspired by McQueen’s design in the show — containing cyan, sky blue, and light purple, etc. Also there’s a lot of use of metallic color, to represent emissions.
Reflection
The work is inspired by “Plato’s Atlantis Show” by Alexander McQueen. The design shows the beauty and mystery of the ocean and inspired people to reduce the pollution of the marine system. Through the show I see the variety of ocean patterns, so I was inspired to create the same series of digital fashions. Alexander McQueen was always focus on natural environment and blended the elements into his works frequently. He incorporated the environmental spirits into his design and used his own fashion works to remind people to pay attention. Since fashion has great influence, it can be very persuasive. The same goes for digital fashion. When doing the research, I felt the fantasticality of marine system, which also reminded me what a beautiful place is being harmed by human pollution. As living in a coastal city, I want people in Shenzhen, no matter local citizens or tourists, to stop throwing garbages into the sea. My school is also beside the beach, I wish I can encourage people in my community to protect the ocean environment together.
