Neha Kanneganti
Okemos, MI
2020, Junior, Interactive & Multimedia

Project Description: ClimateHope is an app that strives to spread awareness on the climate crisis and its impacts on our oceans, especially to younger kids. Features include: a login system that allows users to create their own account, which allows the app to become more personalized; users can learn about the climate crisis and its impact on our oceans; an interactive way for users to learn about the carbon cycle; a quiz that allows users to test their knowledge on the climate crisis and estimate their annual carbon footprint after answering some questions on their daily lifestyle; mini-games that provide an interactive way for others (especially younger children) to learn more and build an emotional connection to helping the climate crisis and the oceans, and encourages users to take steps to fight against the climate crisis.

Mobile app menu for Climate Hope! offers options like About the App, Information, Carbon Cycle, Fun Quiz, MyFootprint Calc, Mini Games, MyChange Tracker, and Optional Survey with "Go" buttons.

Mobile screen displaying a Climate Change Quiz asking which of the listed options is a greenhouse gas. Options include CO2, N2O, Water Vapor, and All of Above.

A checklist with actions to reduce carbon footprint: walk/bike, plant, cut waste, recycle, use transit, hang dry clothes, calculate footprint. Options are checked. Points: 40.

A mobile game menu with buttons for "Is It Recyclable?" and "Ocean Cleanup." Instructions on how to play both games are listed. A "Back" button is at the bottom.

Reflection
Reflection

There is a climate crisis in our Earth and there is no denying it. We can see the impacts of it through our daily lives and yet so many people choose to ignore it. Some people simply don't know or they are confused about the climate crisis. Or they just don't know how they can help fight this crisis. That's when my app comes in. My app, Climate Hope, strives to teach about our climate crisis and its impacts on our oceans to others. I believe that if others, especially younger children are well-educated on it, they will strive to make a positive difference in the environment and help build a climate-safe future. I combined my passion for the environment and coding together to create this app. Throughout the process of making this app, I learned so much about the climate crisis myself, and hope that others who will use my app will learn as much as I did. As I was coding this, my main goal was to create something that has interactive learning and encourages others to take action to help the climate crisis and our oceans. In the end, I believe I did just that and I am proud of my work.
