Climate Hero: Elliot Gannon, Reef Revive
Reflection
Margaret Wertheim and Vanessa Barragao are both fiber artists that create beautiful woven and crochet coral reef sculptures. I also found a climate hero named Elliot Gannon who is working to save coral reefs through sculpture. He started the Reef Revive Organization where he is able to 3D print structures that the coral is able to attach and grow. On the back of my sculpture, there is a net with trash. Beneath the net and trash is white coral to show that human carelessness turns the once vibrant coral into bleached, dull, white, coral. It is more important than ever for people to change their habits because climate change is an ever-growing problem that has huge impact on the ocean and coral reefs. People like Elliot Gannon are working hard to combat the problems facing the ocean's coral reefs, but more people across the globe must make behavioral changes to reduce atmospheric and other types of waste in order to reduce climate change.
