Reflection
The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai and The Scream by Edvard Munch inspired me. I researched the two paintings’ backstories and found that The Great Wave represented the fear of the ocean; The Scream, “anxiety” and “an infinite scream passing through nature.” I thought these messages related to climate change, so I decided to combine them. Paired together, they formed a humorous amalgamation of a fish with the same facial expression as the person in The Scream fearing the giant ocean waves from Hokusai’s painting. I wanted to create a unique painting that showed climate change from the perspective of animals. The fish screams with horror at all the terrible things happening around it, while the humans are ignorantly fishing even in such dire circumstances. This represents humanity's indifferent attitude today towards climate change.
