Nature for a Change

Project Description: We made an interactive website to teach people about fast fashion and how this adds plastic to the ocean. This website also taught people how to make a bag from an old t-shirt to avoid using a plastic bag. We made games and a coloring contest for elementary students teaching them how to make bags and how to design bags, while teaching them about plastic. We designed and made bags from old t-shirts. We did a drive for t-shirts and collected them to make LOTS of bags (more than 90 pounds). We spread the word about the dangers of plastic using art, website, video, our school’s Facebook posts and lots of live presentations. We taught elementary students and high school students how to make bags from t-shirts.
Reflection
This year, we studied what hurts the ocean and was shocked to find out that fashion is a culprit! The huge amount of plastic bags in the ocean make entire islands of plastic and microplastic cause damage too. This is shocking and not just because we love turtles. Colorado's watersheds go to the ocean, and the plastic starts here. We wanted to do a project to make a difference, even though we are only kids.
