Climate Hero: Mark Ruffalo, The Solutions Project
Power is given to an individual in order to survive.
What a person does with power reveals whether he or she can be able to thrive.
Power is a unique force,
And it can set someone on a miraculous course.
In a community, power can create a spark.
Something that can leave an everlasting mark
On future generations and more,
Because with that mark, they will have the ability to soar.
However, power can be abused
And it can leave many broken and confused.
Climate change is a real issue that we have to commit to solving
If we ever want a real chance at evolving.
Mark Ruffalo is a prime example of what power can give us.
He inspires and funds dreams that are sure to outlive us.
He takes his power and shares it with others.
Fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers.
He finds leaders and amplifies their voices
Because he is aware we can all make choices;
To either make some noise
Or to watch as Earth gets destroyed.
In order to change our problematic way of life and revolutionize,
We must first open our human eyes.
In doing so, we can see the error in our ways
So that we can change them in exchange for better days.
Power can be a gift or a curse.
We just have to decide if we want to use it for the better or for the worse.

Writing is a very big passion of mine. I love that I can portray all my inner thoughts and feelings into words. Poetry is my favorite from of writing. I enjoy creating images and emotions with just my words. My poem was inspired by Mark Ruffalo. I think he is truly a remarkable person who cares for Earth and the people who live on it. I'm a big Marvel fan and was surprised to find out he is a hero on screen and off. When I was working on my poem, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. I didn't realize how bad climate change was until I read news articles and heard from local activists for inspiration. I was disappointed to learn that marine life is diminishing due to overfishing, pollution, and rising temperatures. I was even more distressed when I found out that ecosystems are becoming more and more scarce as time goes on because they are unable to adapt to climate change. I have learned that not only is Earth suffering due to human activities but also that not a lot of people are doing anything about it. When I took all this to account, I also realized that I have not been doing much to help our planet. Reading and sharing articles about pollution and climate change is just the least of what I can do. I plan to help our planet in the ways I can locally, which includes making signs about the topic, creating clubs in person and online, and bringing eco-friendly activities and events to the attention of my principal at school.
