H
save what still remains
Anja LeTellier
Carlsbad, CA
2020, Senior, Performing Arts

Seas are rising
Glaciers are melting
Earth’s children are cast from their homes

Skylines are rising
As climate is climbing
In a warning that is still unheard

How long will it take
Till we see what is truly at stake
Green gas has changed the PH now
There’s no time left to start but now
To save what still remains

Reefs are dying
Which once were thriving
All their color is now bleached white

Currents are changing
Sea life is dwindling
As the changes are too much to bear

How long will it take
Till we see what is truly at stake
Green gas has changed the PH now
There’s no time left to start but now
To save what still remains

Reflection
Reflection

When first starting the process of writing a song addressing climate change, I thought back to my time taking a marine biology class in school. I remembered learning about ocean acidification along with ocean warming and how they affect sea animals. In my song, I really wanted to focus on ocean-depending animals that have been greatly effected by human-caused climate change. Throughout the process of writing and researching, I began to feel sad for the animals who have had their habitats destroyed, and frustrated with people for allowing this to go on for so long. This frustration led me to the realization that this global crisis will have to be addressed as a whole. Everybody must do their part to help lessen the human carbon footprint on earth. When learning about this crisis, I sought hope in the idea that fighting climate change is not impossible. If people were to be educated on climate change and change their lifestyles to lessen their carbon footprints, our planet could remain beautiful and healthy. I will change my lifestyle by carpooling and walking to destinations. I will continue to not eat meat in order to lessen my contribution to methane release that occurs in the meat industry. I will also use more recycled materials and support eco-friendly industries.
