Climate Hero: Ken Campbell, Ikkatsu Project
Reflection
My Climate hero is Ken Campbell, who uses sea kayaks to combat the global threat of climate change and ocean pollution. He believes that the freedom and dependability of kayaks allow riders to experience fun and science simultaneously as they clean up the Pacific coast. Not only does he clean the oceans himself, but he also teaches students in Washington State and inspires them to advocate for clean oceans. He hosts group clean-ups and lessons around his work and climate change, planting the seed for environmentally friendly practices in the youth to help protect our future. He even combines his work with creativity and art by reusing debris and trash collected on his kayak rides to build more kayaks. The seed planted within youth can grow up to create a community that is more attentive around plastic use and overfishing will help address these more significant issues in the long run.
